Actress Eliza Dushku published a lengthy post detailing a disturbing sexual encounter with True Lies stunt coordinator Joel Kramer. The accusations of sexual assault come nearly 24 years after the July 1994 release of the James Cameron-directed blockbuster, which gave Dushku her big break as a child actress. She’s gone on to establish a prolific career in television and film, most recently starring in the TV series Bull and horror mystery Eloise.
Kramer, meanwhile, continues to work as a stunt coordinator in Hollywood. He most recently worked on Denis Villeneuve’s Blade Runner 2049 as well as TV series like Westworld and Star Trek: Discovery. He’s been consistently active on stunt teams since 1983 with nearly 100 credits. But of course, that’s likely about to change now that Dushku has come forward with sexual assault accusations against him.
As she revealed in a lengthy Facebook post on Saturday, Dushku is accusing Kramer of sexually molesting her when she was 12 years old and working on True Lies. Kramer was 36 years old at the time. Dushku describes calculating behavior by Kramer, whom she accuses of building trust in both herself and her parents and “grooming” her. Most disturbingly, she describes in great detail extreme sexual misconduct by Kramer after he “lured” the actress to his Miami hotel room. Kramer categorically denied the accusations in a phone call to The Wrap on Saturday, describing them as “absolute lies” and saying he’s “shocked” and “floored” by them.
Dushku gave credit for her decision to publish the post to the many “women and men who have gone before me” in going public with their own accounts of sexual misconduct and highly inappropriate behavior by powerful people in the entertainment industry. She also said that she’d heard years ago that Kramer had been “found out” and blackballed from the industry, before recently learning that she was mistaken. Additionally, she says Hollywood has been “very good” to her but also “failed to protect” her as a child actress.
Based on the actress’ post, you can infer that Kramer’s behavior has been something of an “open secret” in Hollywood for years, similar to that of disgraced producer Harvey Weinstein and actor Kevin Spacey. Considering that Kramer worked for over a decade before True Lies and continued to work for years after, Dushku’s allegations could inspire many others to come out against the stunt coordinator.
Kramer doesn’t appear to have any projects planned for 2018. So if there’s even a shred of truth to Dushku’s accusations, he has almost certainly worked his last day in Hollywood.
