Netflix Cancels Lady Dynamite

Netflix has canceled Maria Bamford‘s semiautobiographical comedy series Lady Dynamite after two seasons.

Season 1 followed Maria Bamford’s reentry into her stand-up career in Los Angeles after spending six months away from the city of stars in recovery for bipolar disorder, while Season 2 focused more heavily on her burgeoning relationship with Scott (Ólafur Darri Ólafsson) and juggling her new job at a streaming network. Both seasons of the show incorporated flashbacks to Maria’s childhood to depict her backstory with family and friends.

Though Netflix was once known for renewing all of its original series, in the past year it has canceled several high-profile shows, including Baz Luhrmann’s The Get Down, The Wachowskis’ Sense8 and Chelsea, Chelsea Handler’s mich-vaunted talk show.

Lady Dynamite is one of a handful of female-driven series that Netflix has axed, including Girlboss, Gypsy and Haters Back Off.
