La La Land’s Damien Chazelle to create show for Apple

Apple continues to build on its plans for original TV content.

The Hollywood Reporter just announced that La La Land writer/director Damien Chazelle will be writing and helming every episode of his own TV show for Apple. As of yet, there are no details on what the ‘innovative’ drama might be about, but perhaps music may be involved?

The Chazelle show has already garnered a straight-to-series order from Apple, though how many episodes that might entail is still unclear. Chazelle’s La La Land producers Jordan Horowitz and Fred Berger will also be involved with the Apple series. While Chazelle has never written a TV show, he has directed one: Netflix’s upcoming The Eddy, penned by the ever-prolific Jack Thorne.

For those keeping track at home, Chazelle’s drama joins an already exciting line-up of upcoming shows for Apple, who is going after some top talent to help launch its streaming service.

Reese Witherspoon and Jennifer Aniston will star in a morning news drama. Kristen Wiig is headlining a show adapted from the as-of-yet unpublished collection of stories You Think It, I’ll Say It. Bryan Fuller is showrunning an Amazing Stories reboot. Battlestar Galactica creator Ron Moore is creating another space drama. Octavia Spencer is starring in a drama centered around our culture’s obsession with true crime.

With the company expected to spend $1 billion on scripted originals, they are betting big on the streaming service/original content game…
